Researching and Writing the Mourning Brooch Saga - Jean Renwick
Author and family historian, Jean Renwick, reveals years of research behind her family saga, The Mourning Brooch, based upon the lives of real Yorkshire people who lived in the second half of the 19th and first half of the 20th century. After inheriting a mourning brooch, Jean was intrigued to know who was Elizabeth Addy, commemorated in the brooch, and what happened to the two little girls she left behind. The two novels of the trilogy so far published reveal how the sisters’ lives took them in very different directions.

This talk looks at the plight of adoptees, foundlings, orphans and the Empire children (Child Migrants), essentially through the 19th & 20th centuries.

Not everyone you see described as a traveller, vagrant or hawker is someone with gypsy blood, that is a member of the ethnic group that originated in North West India over 1000 years ago. Beverley will describe ways of gathering other vital clues eg names and occupations which might be the proof you need to confirm romany roots.

There is parking available at the hall.
