Publication Enhancements

We have over 50 publications we cannot print in-house. Since 2011 they have been made available through an online publisher. To purchase you had to buy direct from them.

In June 2020 we teamed up with a local Wiltshire print company to print these titles.

This means all of our publications are now available from one online source, GENfair.

The Sales Leaflet has been extensively updated.

All large titles have been reduced in price.

Editor Wanted

The Editor of the Society’s Journal, Bethanie Afton, is standing down after 15 very successful years, and the Executive Committee is looking for someone to take over from 2021.

The new Editor need not be a member or live locally, although both might be an advantage.  Working closely with contributors and the Society’s volunteers, he or she will enjoy considerable independence to use computer, office, and administrative skills to set the standards of content and appearance of the Journal.  This will play an important part in maintaining the cohesiveness of the Society and the fine reputation it enjoys in the UK family history community.

Over the years Bethanie has developed this satisfying publication and would welcome questions about it via  This email address is being protected from spambots. Wiltshire Tithe Awards

We have recently published the results of a significant transcription project - Wiltshire Tithe Awards.

Tithes were originally payments made in kind to the clergy of the parish to support the church and its incumbent. By the nineteenth century, there was a hodge-podge of arrangements for paying this tax to the church. “An Act for the Commutation of Tithes in England and Wales" (more commonly known as “The Tithe Commutation Act”) was passed in 1836 to convert in-kind payments to monetary payment on a standardised basis set out in the Act. Previous commutation agreements remained in place. Transcribers for Wiltshire FHS have transcribed names of owners and occupiers, plot names and measurements recorded in every Tithe Apportionment held by Wiltshire & Swindon Archives.
The descriptive headings used in the apportionments have been replicated and (with a few exceptions) followed the order in which the plots are recorded within the documents.

This publication comprises an Introduction, Place Index, Name and Institution Index and a full transcript, in all 4027 pages.

Due to its size it is only available on CD-ROM or as a download. Both can be obtained through Genfair, or the CD-ROM by post from our Resource Centre. See our Sales Leaflet through our Publications page.
