Introduction
to the Society
The
Society was founded in 1981 and has a growing membership of over 2600
throughout the world. The Society's aim is to encourage the study of
family history, including both Wiltshire ancestry of people world-wide
and world-wide ancestry of Wiltshire residents. It aims to provide
contacts between members by regular meetings and through the quarterly
journal published in January, April, July and October. Members not
only research their ancestors by name but, by using all available
information, seek to build up a complete picture of the people in the
setting in which they lived. As the Society consists of a friendly
mixture of complete beginners and experienced family historians there
is every opportunity for beginners to receive encouragement in their
researches.
The Society is a registered charity within the meaning of English
law, registered number
290284.
Wiltshire is a county of southwest England
consisting mainly of rural chalky downland, rising to hills in the
north and rich valleys in the south. Throughout this site thumbnail
pictures from around the county will appear. For larger images click
on the picture.
All the information
available on this site has been obtained and transcribed by volunteers
giving of their own free time to assist you and others. The many small
notes of encouragement and thanks are always appreciated
