1 The following trips are planned for 2008 as follows:
1.1 Saturday 22 November - to the London Metropolitan Archives, Society of Genealogists, City of London Guildhall Library and the Church of the Latter Day Saints Family History Centre in Exhibition Road, Kensington.
1.2 Saturdays 7 June and 6 September - to the National Archives at Kew which by then will incorporate most of the archive material previously held at the Family Records Centre, Islington due to close at the end of March 2008.
1.3 Saturday 3 May - to London Olympia for the SOG Annual Fair and "Who do you think your are ?" Live. It will be possible for members taking part in this group visit to obtain a special discounted group Admission Ticket to London Olympia. The price of this ticket will be equivalent to £7.50 per person against the normal Admission Price payable on the day of £20 per person. Members wanting to take advantage of this special rate must apply to Brian Hook (see his address in paragraph 4 below) enclosing their cheque for £7.50, or £21.00 if they are also paying for their coach seat at the same time. Cheques must be made payable to "Wiltshire FHS" and be received by Brian not later than Friday, 11 April 2008.
2 For each of the above visits, the coach will first pick-up at the bus stop outside "Focus" opposite Sainsbury's Superstore on the A4 Chippenham to Bath Road at 07.00 (cars may be parked in the "Focus" car-park) and then to Swindon to pick-up at the Link Centre, West Swindon at 07.20 and then to Cavendish Square, Whitbourne Avenue,in central Swindon at 07.30 before journying on to London.
A five minute comfort stop will be provided, if required, on both the outward and return journeys.
3 The return fare for each of the above visits will be £13.50 per person payable at the time of booking. Cheques should be made payable to "Wiltshire FHS"
4 Persons wishing to board the coach at the Swindon pick-up point(s) should book through Brian Hook, 30 Cabot Drive, Grange Park, Swindon SN5 6HG. Tel: (01793) 639 722, e-mail: Brian Hook. 5 The Society's policy on refunds is as follows:
A refund of monies paid to the Society in respect of coach trips will only be made when the following circumstances apply:
5.1 When the Society and/or the coach company is unable, for whatever reason, to run the advertised visit.
5.2 The person is unable to take part in the visit due entirely to unforeseen circumstances beyond their control e.g., their own indisposition or that of any immediate members of their family through death, sickness, ill-health, hospitalisation, or similar circumstance.
5.3 In the event that the circumstances in 5.1 and 5.2 above do not apply, a refund will only be considered if the resulting vacant seat or seats can be resold by the Society without any financial loss being incurred by the Society.
The Society's Executive Committee has appointed Brian Hook, Coach Organiser, to act as its arbiter in any dispute concerning a refund under the above policy."

WFHS ORGANISED TOUR OF WW1 OR WWII BATTLEFIELDS

Have you ever thought about making a visit to any of the First World War or Second World War Battlefields? If so, this article will undoubtedly be of interest to you. We are considering organising one of the following 5 day tours in 2009 in conjunction with one of the specialists in this field, Leger Holidays.
TOUR 1 - "Passchendaele Remembered" The Third Battle of Ypres "

  • 3 full-day Battlefield Visits with a Specialist Guide. " Coach Boarding Points can be in North and South Wilts. "
  • Crossing to France could be by Ferry or Channel Tunnel. "
  • Possible visits to War Cemeteries where relatives of those taking part in the Tour are buried or commemorated. "
  • Projected cost based on two sharing is £340.00 per person, with a single room supplement of £105.
TOUR 2 - "D-Day Landings in Normandy" "
  • All the items listed under Tour 1. "
  • Projected cost based on two sharing is £355.00 per person, with a single room supplement of £85.00
The costs quoted above do not include entrance fees, lunches and evening meals, or travel insurance.
