Resources

Below is a résumé of some of the facilities available in the Society Resource Centre. The Society is continually adding to its resources through research, transcriptions and donations. All research enquiries, including those by e-mail, must be sent to the Resource Centre: address 10 Castle Lane, Devizes, Wiltshire SN10 1HJ or . Research teams attend weekly to answer these, and a small charge may be made to cover the costs involved e.g. postage and photocopying. See below for the scale of charges. E-mail enquiries must include a postal address, as many answers will include photocopies or prints of documents. The Society prefers to answer in this mode as it is not only quicker but reduces the risk of introducing the possibility of transcription errors which could hinder your research.

Charges for Research

The Society charges £4 for up to one hour's research including postage, photocopying/printing and VAT. Please submit your request and the Society will send you an invoice

Resource Centre

The Centre address is 10 Castle Lane, Devizes, Wilts, SN10 1HJ, UK and is now open at any suitable time by pre-arrangement subject to a volunteer being available and sufficient notice is given - at least one week.
Pre-booking is essential.
Enquiries to Mrs Barbara Fuller, 1 Estcourt Villas, Estcourt Crescent, Devizes, Wilts SN10 1LS. Telephone number +44 (0) 1380 724379 (after 5.00 p.m. UK time) or by email -

The Resource Centre is off the Market Place to the left of the Bear Hotel - easily recognised. Go past the bank on the left, first left and the second door.

There no charge for members who undertake their own research, although volunteers are on hand.

Research Services

The Resource Centre houses the Society’s Indexes and Book Library, other than the Members’ Interests. Volunteers will undertake research on behalf of members. The Society cannot undertake research beyond our own indexes. For other records members should contact the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre, now at Chippenham about 500 metres from the railway station.

In every case all pertinent indexes available in the Resource Centre will be searched, and where appropriate our researchers will suggest further sources; but the Society does not undertake research  outside of own sources.

Research Request Form:
To seek research a form can be downloaded, which after completion should be sent to Research Enquiry Resource Centre, Wiltshire Family History Society, 10 Castle Lane, Devizes, Wilts, SN10 1HJ, UK. To download the form click here. To return use your browser Back Button.

If you wish to send an e-mail to please include your name and address as the reply will probablyinclude photo-copies and these can only be sent by post. This eliminates any further transcribing required and thus the added risk of the introduction of possible errors which may hinder your research.
