Research Enquiry Form

The Society's Resource Centre in Devizes contains various indexes, documents and finding aids, mostly relating to Wiltshire. It is open periodically to members by prior arrangement as explained in our journal. Additionally, teams of volunteers from our branches carry out research using the records in the Resource Centre.
If you wish to make use of the volunteer research facility, please print this form and provide the information requested. Post it to: The Research Coordinator, WFHS, 10 Castle Lane, Devizes, SN10 1HJ, UK
In particular, please identify your sources as this will greatly assist the volunteers to provide the help you want. We normally reply by post, as photocopies are more reliable than manual transcriptions.

Our researchers often find that information requested could have been found in sources available to most enquirers. For example, details sought can often be found in the International Genealogical Index (IGI) which is available on www.familysearch.org and in many UK reference libraries. Similarly, where a birth, marriage or death is known to have occurred after the introduction of civil registration (1st July 1837), it may be worth obtaining a certificate (via www.statistics.gov.uk/registration/certificates.asp or www.1837online.com) before asking our volunteers for Wiltshire information.
